Lucas Racasse

is a French illustrator and film director, born in 1969, based in Brussels. After two short years at the arts scool ‘La Cambre’ Brussels (1985-1987) and various work placements with advertising and publicity agencies, he launched himself into unconventional graphics working for the press, for several theatres and theatre companies, and putting on exhibitions in Belgium, France, Italia.

«Lucas Racasse […] processes our époque without making any concessions and translates it into something we all readily recognize: fiction. Anecdotes become a religion of sorts. Armed with an acerbic vision, Racasse refuses to let moralities obstruct his line of sight. He gladly preaches the apocryphal so that we may comprehend his reality. He has a profound love-hate relationship with the omnipresent violence, which is built on firmly anchored frustrations, unresolved inquiries and paranoia controlled by the aesthetics of horror. […] Lucas Racasse’s work can be classified as techno-realism, however, it effortlessly fits into the contemporary art mould, leaning towards the digital trend. His subjects are inspired by the taboos that have haunted art history from its beginnings: the never-ending battle between good and evil, sex and death.» Phil Vanduynen
